In-Class Assignment #2:

“The Vision Tree” (45-60 minutes)

Core Idea:

Students map out a personal goal like a tree—understanding that visible success (fruit) depends on deeper purpose (roots) and thoughtful strategy (branches).

Setup (5–7 min)

After watching R&R Episode 2, pass out paper and markers.

Introduce the prompt:

“Think about something you want to build, achieve, or become. Not vaguely—specifically. This is your vision.”

Push them with examples if needed:

  • A sneaker reselling business

  • Becoming a content creator

  • Starting a nonprofit

  • Getting into a specific college or career

Build Phase (20–25 min)

Students draw a tree and label each part:

1. The Trunk = Vision

  • What do you want to build or become?

  • Must be specific
(e.g., not “make money,” but “start a sneaker reselling business”)

2. The Branches = Strategy

  • How will you get there?

  • What are your main approaches?
(e.g., buy undervalued shoes, sell online, grow an Instagram page)

3. The Leaves/Fruit = Actions

  • What are the next concrete steps you can take?
(e.g., research prices, save first $50, post first listing)

4. The Roots (Soil) = Why

  • Why do you actually care about this?

  • What’s driving you? (freedom, family, creativity, impact, etc.)

Prompt them:

“If your ‘why’ is weak, your tree won’t survive.”

Share + Reflection (10–15 min)

Invite a few students to present their trees.

As they share, ask:

  • Which part of your tree is strongest right now?

  • Which part is weakest or missing?
